As the Snow Falls

I've enjoyed writing a few Christmas songs this year. I love Jesus and love the beautiful wild and wonderful places He created. I've always loved snow and everything that it symbolizes. In the bible snow is used to describe how clean Jesus makes us as He washes our sin away. "Wash me and I will be whiter than snow." Psalm 51:7
Most of this song is just fun with a few rhymes here and there. The main chorus at the end however is in (aaab) rhyme scheme in the tradition of a Violette.

If you let it, snow can bring a calmness to your heart. I live a short distance from a very busy highway. I can hear the low hum of passing cars and semis most of the year. During a good West Michigan snow however, the sound is swallowed up in all the cotton candy white. There's a stillness and quiet that only snow can produce. I can pretend I live far from civilization when it snows. When it snows I move from the outskirts of big cities, to the mountains of Idaho or Colorado. At least in my heart.
Snow also creates equality. I could have the worst kept yard in my neighborhood (I'm sure I do), and my neighbors could have emaculate yards, perfectly landscaped, but when it snows they are all the same. I know that might seem like a petty reason to like snow. I gotta tell ya though, a blanket covering everyting, uniting creation in the same wrapping of white, has a special quality to it. We're all the same under that big starry sky. All of us are sinners, all in need of a savior.
Some of the best moments of my life involve heading out to "golf course hill" as a kid with my family for epic sledding. The first snow captures the imagination of my kids no matter what age, igniting dreams of adventures. The strongest snow fort. The tallest snow man. The fastest tobaggon. In the snow I'm connected in a new way each year with the ones I love most.
There's a peace that comes with snow. It's good to be out in it, watching it fall, sticking your tongue out to catch a unique flake. It's also good to be inside, by a warm fire, with a toasty drink in your hands just knowing its blowy and drifty outside. I've always enjoyed life as the snow falls.

AS THE SNOW FALLS
A canvas of fresh snow
Falls on the world I know
The moon shines merry and bright
Washing everything clean
Bringing endless possibility
I'm awestruck by Jesus tonight
Out past the gravel road
Down the trail that daddy pulled
The sled along the river we'll see
The snow fall
Let's cross over the frozen stream
Through the fields where grandpa dreamed
To the edge of the woods we'll see
The snow fall
Come to the edge of the woods and see
How He blankets the meadow
Brings peace where His wind blows
Way down through the hollows
Into the valley of my heart
And He glitters in the pine grove
And bends all the boughs low
Makes everything equal
He purifies my heart
Come to the edge of the woods and see
The snow fall
